A Simple Way To Start Prioritizing
Using your worksheet is very simple and just meant to help you build a habit. After you have trained yourself to think in this way, you won’t need it anymore.
It organizes items into simple categories so that you can schedule what you need to get done to accomplish your main goal. This can be a small goal, like the example I give on the worksheet. Or it can be done so that you have a bigger goal and break that down into smaller ones.
The whole point is to use it however it helps you. And you can use it for any size task.
So first, you define the main goal that you want to accomplish.
Next, you will list all the small tasks that are necessary to achieve that main goal.
At this point, you are going to organize the tasks into one of three categories.
- Must Do – You cannot accomplish the main goal without doing this task
- Should Do – It would hinder or change the results of the main goal if you did not do this. But it could be skipped if absolutely necessary.
- Could Do – If you can fit it in, it would improve the results.
An example goal: clean the kitchen
- I must wash the dishes and countertops.
- I should reorganize the drawers so everything fits.
- I could rearrange the countertops.
The kitchen will not be clean if I don’t wash the dishes and countertops. It will be clean, but maybe not orderly without reorganizing the drawers to fit everything in them. Reorganizing the countertops will make the kitchen function better and look nicer, but the kitchen will be clean without doing this.
